Chieng , born 21 November 1985 , non-primary source needed is a Malaysian
comedian and actor. Chieng is currently a Senior correspondent on The Daily
Show, Comedy Central. He is also the creator and lead actor on the sitcom Ronny
Chieng International Student. It debuted on ABC Australia and Comedy Central
Asia in 2017. Chieng was born into an Malaysian Chinese family. He was born in
Johor Bahru. From 1989 until 1994, he resided in Manchester in New Hampshire.
Chieng performed alongside Trevor Noah at a Melbourne comedy festival in 2013.
He was then asked to audition for the position as a correspondent for Noah's
Daily Show two years after. In July of 2016 Chieng was named one of the top 10
comics to watch by Variety In October, Chieng appeared on The Daily Show to
share his response to a Jesse Watters Fox News segment that was criticized by
some as being racist. Chieng spoke in expletive-laden terms regarding the
segment on conservative network Fox News. Chieng also revisited New York City's
Chinatown in which Watters had mocked residents, and conducted more respectful
interviews in Mandarin and Cantonese. The viral video garnered attention in
Slate and the Washington Post. In his early years, Chieng was an Singapore Sea
Scout. While he's been living in Australia for more than 10 years, he doesn't
possess a permanent residency nor citizenship in Australia. In 2018, Chieng
admitted that he was unfriendly during the Daily Show, but afterwards, he
clarified that he was "100 percent unafraid of dogs".
